Since my original post on 5/00, my wife and I have spent 18 months in Italy, researching my family and meeting a lot of very nice people. We were in Italy from 4/01 to 9/02. We lived in Pescara, in Abruzzo on the Adriatic coast.

My father was Giuseppe Petrillo, born in 1886 in Castelmauro. He came to NY in 1905 at 19 years old. He lived in Utica, upstate NY until 1927, then moved to Cleveland. I was born in Cleveland in 1928.

While in Italy I went to Castemauro several times in search of relatives. I found the house my father was born in, through the local Comune (City Hall) records.
The village of Castelmauro has a population of about 1,500. Petrillo and Iovine (my grandmothers maiden name) are common in that village. There are about 20 or more Petrillo's there. However, I was unable to connect any as being relatives. I talked to many of the Petrillos, but none were able to recall any of my fathers family. I believe I am related to some of them, but cannot make the connection. In any case we did make many friends there.

I have some pictures of the village and some of its residents. If you would like copies, I can e-mail them to you.

Any questions you have, I will try to answer.
