85: VERNA Surname Origin / VERNA Relatives from ChietiHeritage Forums - June 2000

ORIGIN: I would like to here from any VERNA that might have information on the origin of the VERNA surname. I was once told, but have no documentation, that VERNA actually came from the German surname WERNER, and our early ancestors were the Gothic and Lombard Tribesmen that invaded and settled in Northern Italy, around or after the 5th or 6th century A.D., as the Roman Empire was crumbling. If this is true, I would like to try to determine the actual century the VERNA name got to Chiete. I know that according to this website, there were VERNAs in Chiete in 1609. So that "narrows it down" to about a thousand years ... I would appreciate any input. RELATIVES: I would also like to get E-mail from any relatives living anywhere. I do not speak Italian, but my father does. My father is Nicolangelo (Nick) VERNA. He was born in Villa San Vincenzo near Guardiagrele in 1922. He came to the U.S. in 1929, and grew up in Jeanette, PA, near Pittsburgh. His Parents were Guiseppe Marino VERNA (1899-1979) and Maria Assunta DI PRINZIO (1895-1985). Guiseppe's parents were Nicolangelo VERNA and Charina Carosella (Caroselli?). Maria's parents were Nicola DI PRINZIO and Maria Concetta CAPUZZI. I apologize for any spelling errors or any name inconsistancies. Molti Ringraziamenti!
