Hi , I will be going to italy in May , amd have decided this time to rent a car an drive to Abbruzzi(o)-to See what I can dig up. All I know at this point is that my great grandfather was from Abbruzzi, and migrated to Philadelphia in late 1800s, early 1900s. His father was a calvereri(sp?) during the time of Garabaldi, and fought on the side of the king(my knowledge of the history of Italy and this period isscetchy at best) Anyway my gradfather used to show us his grandfathers military medals- there were several bronze and silver with ribbons- I can't really remember them beyond that. Also this man apparently was a giant(my great, great grandfather) for Italy at that time anyway; the family had papers cetrfying his size- they said he was nearly seven foot tall. I am hoping that this was remarkable enough to have been notable. My Granfather was an only child, so there seems to be no other direct link- although as anyone who has researced this at all knows there are a few others sirolli and sirollys(my fam8ily) in the US- presumbaly from the same area. Also this is apparently not a common italian surname, checking the italian white pages on line, I found a couuple of dozen people who show up scatered through Abbruzzo and another 30 or so more in the rest of Italy- mostly in Rome. So I think this history should not be to hard to ferret out. Any information before my trip would be helpful. Dan SIrolly By the way my father changed the last letter to y from i - he thought it added distinction, I always just thought it was confusing.
