John,
My Grandmother was Lucia Leopardi of Badia. Her married name (americanized) was Lucy Quattro of Davis, West Virginia. A year ago I had the privelege, and pleasure, of visiting L'Aquila and the towns of Sulmona, Intradaqua, Fonte d' Amore and Badia. It is a very beutiful area with mountains similiar to those in parts of Southern California. During our visit to Italy, my wife and I drove over 1,700 kilometers thru the country. Sulmona, Badia, Intradaqua and Fonte d' Amore are about an hours drive from Rome. We didn't have enough time to spend searching for any distant relatives, and didn't speak enough Italian that we'd feel comfortable trying to communicate, but we did enjoy the trip and were glad we made it.
