Mrs. Wilson:

The surname Abruzzese is very common in the Val Cominio valley. There is a town called Gallinaro which is immediately north-west of Picinisco. In fact the town boundaries have often been confused by the locals. I know for a fact that many surrounding towns have persons with the same surname but there appears to be a larger concentration of Abruzzese's in Gallinaro & Atina. I live in Toronto Canada but have a house in Settefrati (next to Picinisco and immediately south of Gallinaro) and visit often over the past 35 years. Celestino (meaning light blue) is a common male name in the area and is still widely used today. Your best option is to try the Caserta Stato Civile. Before WWI the entire region mentioned above belonged to a province called Caserta, renamed Frosinone.

Hope this helps. If I can help further, please don't hesitate to ask.

Ms. Pina Colarossi

: I have been looking for information on Antonio Abruzzese for some time now. I do not know for certain
: where in Italy he came from, but family rumour has it
: that he came from Picinisco to Glasgow,Scotland in 1891
: or thereabouts. His parents were Charlestino (or Celestino)Abruzzese and Teresa Pacita. They were farmers. Antonio came to the UK under the chain migration scheme. Married my Great Grandmother Mary in
: 1892 and had 3 children. I have tried the Stato Civile
: in Frosinone looking for a birth certificate, they have
: told me to try Caserta Stato Civile. Does anyone know
: where else I can try? Unfortunately,I cannot research
: our Italian ancesters until I find out this piece of
: information.
