Subject:   Campitelli search

Hello, Anthony:

In searching for some census info on my grandmother, I came across your Abruzzo message board. To my shock, I saw the words Windber, PA in your message. I will try to explain this clearly: My grandmother's maiden name was Virginia DiGiacomo from Castel Frentano. She married Michele Monti (son of Carlglire (? can't make out) Campitelli. Michele came to the US on 5/14/1913 and Virginia followed on 9/16/1916. They lived in Parkesburg (Chester County) until Michele died of tuberculosis in 1921. Virginia then moved to Philadelphia with her three sons, Leonardo, Nicolo and Joseph (my father).
As a child, I remember visits taking place in my grandmother's house a couple of times a year. These visits were from "the Windber relatives" and they were loud and happy days. I was really young (maybe 6 or 7) but I remember a couple of the people who came being called Bambina and Minguine.
If these are the people you are referring to, they were my grandmother's in-laws, relatives of her dead husband, Michele.
The info we have regarding our relatives is limited. They were very close-mouthed and wanted to be absorbed into the American community. My father would not allow my sister and I to learn to speak Italian from my grandmother. What a loss that was. Today, it would be an asset.
Anyway, if you think any of this info is of help to you, I am glad. Anything else I can tell you, I would be glad to do so.
