She married a Funiciello also from San Prisco. : : Working on my family's geneology and trying to locate what part of Italy my grandparents .. Francesco Abate and Carmela Grasso or DiGrazia (not sure of grandparent's spelling) came from. I was told they came from Sicily in the early 1900's and settled in Pennsylvania. Francesco died in 1918 and my grandmother remarried Quirico Corveddu, who was from Sassari, Sardenia. Does anyone out there know of any Abate/Abato/Abote/ from somewhere in Somerset County, PA? Because I don't know the exact spelling, I am not able to get anywhere with my research. : : : Thanks for any help. : : : Emily : : : Thanks My grandfather was Vincenzo Abbate, born 1869, in San Prisco, Province of Caserta in the Administrative Region of Campania. He emigrated to the USA in 1901 with his wife and 2 children on the "Aller". According to the Ellis Island immigration records (ellisislands.org), his place of residence at the time of leaving Italy was Formicola. Information on this town is available at(www.gencampania.com/history/formicola.htm). The family settled in Swissvale, PA, about 10 miles east of the heart of the city of Pittsburgh. The name "Abate", "Abbate" is of Silician origin. Check this website for additional information: www.searchmalta.com/surnames/abbate/index.shtml. Follow Ups:
