I started first by talking with my living relatives. Several were from Italy and most are now deceased. If there are Menditto's who died in this country from your family, you can obtain death certificates which will give names of their parents. I would also look at census records which will list wife and children. the 1900 census was a great help to me. Most of my research here in the States was done in a local LDS Family history library. The Menditto's came from the province of Caserta from a little town called Casagiova which was once know as Casanova. My great great grandfather happened to marry a girl from the neighboring town of San Prisco. If you were to go to the Cemetery in Casagiova as I did you will find many musoleums with the name Menditto. All of my research prior to when my great grandfather Luigi came to America around 1896 was done via microfilm at the Family History Center. All of Caserta is on microfilm beginning in 1820 when the state began to keep records. I did go to the church in Casagiove and the priest was very helpful in locating additional names. I have my Menditto line traced to the late 1700's. I most likely have a common link with you as the Menditto family all came from the same town. If I can be of any assistance feel free to contact me directly.
