Dear Nick

My maternal grandfather was Dante Ciarrocchi but he was from Ascoli near Offida. The surname Ciarrocchi is actually native to the Marche. There's a Ciarrocchi bus line running from Ascoli-Teramo-Atri. I don't remember any Ciarrocchi's from the phone book but I'll do a quick search for you.
Without birth and marriage dates it's practically impossible to find records. If you're in the States you always obtain naturalization or alien registration records from the National Archives or local courthouse where naturalization was registered. In Teramo there is the Archivio dello Stato, which fortunately has the entire civil records (birth, marriage, death and public notices from late 18th century to c. 1910-15 in their original handwritten form bound in annual ledgers) but the don't do mail order requests. So, you would have to go yourself, or possibly find a local university student researcher.

Ciao!
