Subject:   Re: Palombo Surname

My grandmother's name was Leeza Palombo and she was born in 1893 in Constantinople (now Istanbul). Her father Marco was a Spanish Jew (I do not know from what part of Spain) and was made to leave Spain with many other jews. Other parts of my family went to Mexico and still live there.
My great grandfather, Marco, was a merchant and met my great grandmother in Constantinople who was Armenian. I know that my grandmother went to live in Beirut when she was a child and I believe this might have been to do with the rout of the Armenians.
I would love to find out more about the name of Palombo as it seems to be both Spanish and Italian. What part of Spain did my anscestors come from. Are the Palombo's in Italy derived from Jewish stock?
