The surname is di Martini or di Martino. They immigrated to the US before 1900. My g-grandparents came to the state of Colorado from San Pietro Avellana. It is a small town built in a mountain valley. It looks alot like the town in CO where my g-grandparents lived. The town is famous for it's truffles. Truffles are a fungus that grow under ground and are considered a real delicacy. They are only found in 3 or 4 places around the world. I have heard that special dogs are bred to hunt down the truffles. My g-grandparents were Antonio Carlini and Lucia Mariani. In researching the Ellis Island Database, I have seen the Di Martini/o surname mentioned along with many of the other surnames from San Pietro Avellana. My e-mail is mc.youngblood- AT - home.com.
