"Nicola D'Ascenzo (1871-1954) was born in Torricella, Peligna, Italy and came to the United States in 1882 at the age of eleven. Descended from a long line of Italian armor makers, D'Ascenzo's artistic endeavors included a wide range of media from easel painting in oils and watercolors to tapestry, mural painting, mosaics, and, of course, stained glass. Although Italian by birth, D'Ascenzo can be appropriately claimed as an American Artist since he received most of his formal training in this country, studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art and the New York School of Design. Abroad he studied at the Scoula Libera, Rome."
