: Hi...I know this is a old message board but this came up on my search and I was hoping someone could help me. What exactly does SCAMPAGNATA mean ? Where does it originate from ? When I was growing up my family had a camp and the sign," SCAMPAGNATA" always hung on the front porch. Now anyone who would have know what it meant is gone and I was wondering the meaning( in english, please) and where did it originate from. Thank you for your help.

The word scampagnata cames from campagna that means country. Indicate a ride out of the town or village, in occasion of a holyday, usually for the whole day. In this occasion all the members of the family are present. The tradition impose eating and drinking, singing, dancing and so on.
