I have done some research at The Ellis Island records bank, and come up with a 'Giovanni Carideo' who came here in the early 1900s. I do know that my family emigrated from Avellino, Italy to the US. I now work in Manhattan, but all of my family still lives in Boston. I know that my father, Pat Carideo, who also lives in Boston, had some relatives in New Jersey that he had visited when he was little, but I don't have too much info on them. I am trying to put together a family tree. If anyone has any info, that would be greatly appreciated. : Okay. Here's what I know of my side of the family. I am young, 3rd generation American. My great-grandfather's name was some version of Fred (though I think that was anglicized). His son, my grandfather, was named Henry. He had siblings named James, Margaret, Fred and John. I know that at least some branches of the family were illegal, and therefore would not appear in the Ellis Island records, though I believe there were a few who had a port of entry at Boston. I know of no Giovanni on my side of the family. : A town name I have come across (I did a brief research project in 7th grade) was the town of Denticarne (or Denticane) 30 miles north-west of Naples, although I think the family is originally from Calabria, further south.
