Dear Mr. Errico Di Fabio<
Greetings from Malden, Massachusetts! Thanks so much for responding to my message. I was in Canosa Sannita last August looking for relatives of my grandfather and grandmother Antoinetta DiFilippo. I didn't have much luck. I traveled from Firenza to Tollo by train and when I arrived in Tollo I learned that there were no buses or taxis to get me to Canosa. Anyways, I did manage to get a ride to Canosa after walking for a while. I came upon a hotel as I was walking up the hill and a young man named Giovanni whose family ran the hotel was kind enough to drive me to Canosa. I was looking for a church called "SS Filippo e Giacomo Apostoli di Canosa Sannita." I think it was a church. I was told by my father that my grandfather had donated some land to the church and I have a legal document written in Italian that says something about the land. I came upon two older gentlemen in Canosa who read the document. The first gentleman lived near the church and took me to another man's house. They said no one was still alive. I didn't have much time so I had to head back to Firenze.
I was thrilled to get your message and would love to know more about my grandfather and grandmother from Jimmy Fermano's grandaughter. I have been doing some research on the internet from Ellis Island and found out that my grandfather came to the US two times, once at 19 years old in 1905 and again in 1910 when he was 27 years old. Recently a young man from NYC e-mailed me concerning the message and was able to get my grandmother's birth certificate while in Utah. Her given name was Maria Antoinetta DiFilippo and she was born in Canosa Sannita in February 1897. Are there any DiFilippo's still living in Canosa that may be related to her? I would really appreciate any info you can give me or anyone else you know. Please e-mail me at my address anytime.
Thanks so much.
