Antonella:

My grandfather was Giovanni Ricciuti. He was born in 1898 in Casentino. In his late teens and 20s, Giovanni travelled (on foot) to France to find work (I know he worked in a munitions factory for a while, and I seem to remember stories of him working on a construction project to build an airport, but I'm not exactly clear on this). He married Yolanda Cecchini (1907-1983) on Jan. 1, 1929. My mother, Anna Ricciuti, was born nine months later. The family left Italy and came to the United States (Donora, PA.) sometime around the spring or summer of 1930. Giovanni worked in the coal mines in Pennsylvania for about fifteen years, then the family (which now included Anthony, born in 1932) moved to Youngstown, where he worked for Bethlehem Steel until he retired in the late 1960s. Giovanni died in 1999, at age 101. He is survived by two children and three grandchildren.
