: : Hello, : : I will be traveling in Italy in October and wish to look up some family history before we leave the U.S. : : I have traced some history back to Avezzano but I am just beginning. : : My granfather was Palmero Febonio, my father Nemo Febonio, my grandmother Matilda. : : Anybody out there with help on this would be greatly appreciated. : : Thx : : Joe : Hello Joe, : We think your family was actually from Trasacco, near Avezzano. : In our research records we have an Ermanno Palmerino Febonio born 22 march 1882. : Throughout Italy there are only three Febonio families now, two in Trasacco, and another family in the Province of Bari. : There was in the 17th century a great historian, Muzio Febonio, a man of the church, also from the area of Trasacco. In this small village there is also a tower called "Torre dei Feboni" dating back to the 13th century. : Then Trasacco, which was also a fishermen's center, underwent a massive emigration after the draining of Lake Fucino, the largest in Central Italy, in the latter half of the 19th century. : And the earthquake in 1915 was a great killer too of those who remained, not to mention all the young men who died in the First World War. This may explain the near disappearance of the surname. : Good luck in your trip, we think you will have great surprises! : If you need any help, contact our office in L'Aquila (all phone numbers and addresses in the main page : http://www.abruzzo2000.com
