Posted by teriphi!  --  NAME: teresa avella on 04/01/03 at 4:06 AM Subject:   guardiareggia hi-both sets of my grandparents were from guardiareggia, my grandmother was maria iammartino and my grandfather was andrea albanese. my grandmother was raised in brazil. there are many itallians from guargiagregia living in palisades park, nj. my grandfather came to pal park in the late 1800s along with several brothers. he returned to italy to marry my grandmother. my mother carmela there first child was born in palisades park in 1907. my paternal grandparents were nicola rotonda and teresa rucci also from guardiareggia. my mother always told me she was related to pallottas. by the way all my grandprents could read and write italian and my paternal granparents read il progresso daily. my grandmother also used to read the new york daily news. i guess she taught herself to read in english which she never spoke as she was very aware of predjudices to italians back then and would not speak broken english. anyone interested in guardiareggia should check st nicholas church in palisades park, new jersey. by the way they are very wonderful people those immigrants from guardiareggia. caio teresa (my father Genaro rotonda died in 1938 of pneumonia) caio teresa Follow Ups:
