: My Nana (Filomena DeLuca/Nardone from San Vito)made a cookie which I loved. Unfortunately my Mom never made them and she is the only one left from the Nardone/DeLuca family. If anyone knows what these cookies are called and how to make them I would appreciate it very much. This is all my Nana left us: : "Dough: 12 eggs, 2 cups sugar, 24 tablespoons shortening, 6 teaspoons baking powder, 2 teaspoons vanilla. Mix ingredients, as in order in a well of flour - kneed into a soft dough. Filling: 2 lbs. prunes, 2 glasses grape jelly, 1/2 dozen graham crackers (approx), chopped nuts, 2 glasses apple butter. Cook prunes, strain and mix jelly, crackers, nuts and cook with prunes until thick." I do not know if this is an Italian cookie or not, but she always made them for special occassions. My Mom believes that these cookies were fried, but she doesn't really remember. They are half moon or crescent shaped. The filling, after the cookies are baked or fried, was not wet but sort of dry inside. I hope someone can help me. I want so much to make these for my children and especially to teach my daughter how to make these. Thank you!
