Both my maternal grandparents were born there (Caluori and Cacchione). I found their baptismal records thanks to the parish priest - he was very helpful. He also referred to notes his predecessor kept on the origins of local names. It seems he knew where both families came from and roughly when. I don't know how you might reach him short of going there, but I think I may be able to get you a phone number. Do you speak Italian ? Rob : My great-grandfather, Michelangelo "Michael" SASSI immigrated to the United States from Montorio nei Frentani in 1920. I am currently researching the following surnames from the village: COLANTONIO, DI LUCA, DEL ROSSO, FERRARO, FIORILLI, FRANCHILLI, MANCINI, MONTANARO, PETRELLA, RAIMONDO, SASSI, STICCO, TERZANO, VESPA. The LDS have microfilmed the civil records of Montorio during the XIX Century, and they are available at family history centers. I have had success in tracing my ancestry back to the beginning of the XVIII Century through these records. I would be interested to hear from anyone researching a Montorio surname and would be happy to share some tips. Please e-mail at dianerob- AT - msn.com.
