Thank you (molto grazia) for checking on Mattia or DiMattia family name. My great grandfather was Dominic Mattie who was born in Furci (I beleive) in 1845. He emigrated to the USA in 1891 with his oldest son Sylvester (ne. Sebastian. They worked on the Erie Railroad (NYC to Chicago) and in 1995 Dominic sent for his wife and three sons to come to USA. His wife, my great grandmother was Rosa Cianciosi Mattie. She was born in the late 1840's or mid 1850's. Thye other three sons were JOhn Dominic, my grandfather who was born in 1884 (died 1953), Nicholas, a tailor who fought in WWI for USA and Ignatius, the youngest son. I is reported that there were two daughters of Dominic and Rosa--Annunciata and Immaculata. I do not know their married names. They stayed in Italy. My family ran a successful ice cream parlor, retail and wholesale candymaking business and owned a franchise to bottle Coca-Cola from 1922 to 1961. My father John Louis Mattie, followed in his father's footsteps with the restaurant and candy business. My father learned candymaking trade from his uncle Ignatius Mattie mentioned previously. My fahter's cousins Patraicia and Mary Louise Mattie visited Furci a couple years ago with the church group from our home parish of St. Ann's in our hometown Hornell, NY (Steuben Coounty) It is just about 50 miles west of Corning NY (Corning glassworks) aand 65 miules south of Rochester NY (Eastman Kodak) and 90 miles southeast of Buffalo NY. Anything you can tell me about my family name would be appreciated. Many families came to Honrell to work on the railroad after my family arrived in 1890's. Some are the Argentieri's, Porcaro's, Daniels' (Danielli??), Trentanelli, D'Agostino, etc. My fathers' counsins Patricia and Mary Louise were not able to access any birth and death records when they visited with the church group as the town hall and the church offices were closed. Thank you and Happy New Year. Joseph John Mattie, 187 Pawling Ave., Troy, NY 12180.
