Subject: Melone from Scontrone
Curt- I have some Melones in the bloodline who do not precisely fit your direct request, but may be related. I need to do some fact checking, but I believe my mom's father, August Melone was from Scontrone and came to Chicago around 1915. He went back to Italy a couple years later with his wife and daughter Jean to visit other relatives and became seriously ill there and wound up staying for several months and depleting his resources. After recuperating he then came back to Chicago and worked for several years, I believe digging sewers for the sanitary district until he could bring his wife (former Mary Marcucci I think) back to Chicago with their (now two) daughters, the second of which (Mae) was born shortly after August returned to Chicago following his illness in Italy. (August first saw May when she was about 7 I believe). Anyway Mary and August wound up here in Chicago, eventually having 7 kids, all of whom survived until the last year or so. Mae died about 9 months ago, Jean a few months later at age 90 or so. I will be getting more information soon if you are interested; my wife and I are taking our kids, my mom (Rose), and stepdad to Italy in May but I cannot get any information from my mom till we spring the news of the surprise trip her on her birthday, which is in two weeks. She will have several months to bone up on her Italian, and perhaps include a side trip to Scontrone. Bill
