Dear Mr. Popow,

We have been doing research for a guide to some of the Piccirilli sculpture in New York City for some three years now and have not come across anything that we could recognize as their being Freemasons. In his earlier years in this country Attilio belonged to a circle of Italian friends some of whom were unusual in their beliefs...anarchists, a defrocked priest, atheists among them. But their were also educators, union organizers musicians, Caruso and politicians to be (Fiorello H. LaGuardia).
The one biography of Attilio, "Attilio Piccirilli: Life of an American Sculptor" by Josef Vincent Lombardo may reveal something to you that eludes us. Almost all subsequent writing about the family relies on the Lombardo book's information. We have found something new about their early life in Italy before emigrating but it is mainly in relation to their training as sculptors.
We would like to know if the Manitoba Parliament has any records of the construction which might have involved transactions with the Piccirillis such as letters, estimates of costs and such.

Yours truly,

Jerry and Eleanor Koffler
