Subject:   Esposito from Morrone del Sannio

In Feb. 2001 I posted message looking for family of my grandfather whose surname I believed to be Ioffredo(citizenship papers and legal papers in US used with this name). Since then I have discovered much. My grandfather's birth name was Antonio Esposito (he went by Michele):father Pietro Esposito born in Provvidenti, mother Maria Michela Addolorato Mustillo born in Morrone. He was born Sept. 14, 1882 in Morrone del Sannio, Campobasso, Molise; his mother died on 16th. His father remarried and with 2nd wife, Maria Michela di Iorio, had son Domenicantonio (called Antonio). My grandfather came to US about 1900, his brother in 1902. They lived in Corning, NY. In 1904 my grandfather married my grandmother in Corning.Grandpa's brother returned to Italy about 1906, married Maria Giuseppa di Girolamo from Provvidenti in 1909, returned again to US in 1910 in hopes of bringing his family but when he returned to Italy WWI had broken out and he was killed May 30, 1917. From great-uncle's marriage were 3 children:one son and daughter are deceased but son(Domenicantonio) is still alive and living in Campobasso. There are still family in Morrone del Sannio as well as Canada. My greatgrandparents lived with Ioffreda family in Morrone and may be reason my grandpa used that name in US. My grandfather lived with shepherding family from youth; perhaps that family was Ioffreda(o).Name use still a mystery. In US the surname evolved into Luffred. From much research I know that Loffreda(o), Ioffredo(a) are surnames found in Lucito, Morrone del Sannio and Provvidenti--all villages near one another. I would like to make contact with Esposito relatives and hopefully get answers to more questions. My father and 7 of brothers and sisters are deceased, only one brother and sister still living and perhaps only oldest 2 children knew anything of great uncle's family; never passed info to rest of family sadly. Now we know our Italian and Canadian relatives exist and we would like to make connection. Welcome all response and willing to share what info I have found to prove relationships. Much thanks..........Sharon
