Subject:   Schiavi d'Abruzzo

I traveled to Rome this past summer and did not want to pass up the opportunity to see Abruzzo and the town where my mother was born. Was able to arrange a car and driver for the day to take me there to see the town of Schiavi d'Abruzzo. I considered myself very lucky to have a driver living in Rome who actually was from Schiavi and his mother still lived there!

What a thrilling experience to walk the streets where my ancestors came from and even more of a thrill to meet relatives still living there - the family Nino Falasca who is my mother's second cousin. We spent a wonderful afternoon eating and talking (as best I could with the little Italian that I know). They pointed out to me the actual house where my mother was born. Needless to say when I showed the pictures to my mother, she was more than happy.

My mother is Debora Di Santo, daughter of Nicola and Alessandrina Del Vecchio Di Santo. Some other names (traced backed to my great, great grandparents are Sabatino and Orlando...

This is a must do in a lifetime trip...you will never forget it.
