For your information, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) has microfilmed much of the state civil records in Avellino (among many many other places in the world). These are available at regional LDS Family History Centers, and this is the path I've been on to trace birth records. The book you refer to is really excellent..I have, in fact, seen it in a library and just purchased it. I'm considering getting the actual birth certificates as you suggest. Thanks again.
