Subject: Possible relatives still in Cervinara.
Hi, My father, now deceased, came to New York State with his parents as a young boy in the early 1900's. His baptismal name was Guiseppe Antonio Natalino Muscatiello. His parents (my grandparents) were Carmine Muscatiello and his wife's maiden name was Capuano. My father had two brothers, Frank and Ralph, both older. Although the family was from Cervinara the family happened to be in Montelanico, (Lazio Province) Italy just south east of Rome when he was born. I visited Cervinara in October of 1951 and met some fellow who said he was my cousin and correctly identified my aunt and uncle by name, but confused me as their son as I was named after him. Although I have a copy of his birth certificate from Montelanico with the name "Muscatiello" I'm wondering if the name was really "Moscatiello" as I've never came up with the former name on maps showing that name in Avellino Province. Incidentally our name was changed when I was very small to Muscatell. When I visited Cervinara I remember seeing a faded sign painted on the side of a building upon entering the town that read: "Off Limits to all U.S. Army Personnel", the purpose of which remains unknown to me. Oh Yes! As I remember my grandfather and grandmother were "itinerant charcoal makers" thus accounting for my father's birth away from Cervinara. Any Muscatiello's out there?
