Subject: Spina from Larino
Hi everyone :-)
I just found this site tonight and am looking forward to finding information that could help me learn more about ancestors. I will gladly share what little information I have that may help any of you as well. My maternal grandparents were from Larino, Campobasso. My grandfather was Michele Spina and my grandmother was Giustina Tozzi, born in 1889, and she was the only surviving child, as well as the last child that her mother bore, out of 20. (My mother is the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters.)My grandmother's parents were landowners and from what I have been told, the 2-storey house where my grandmother grew up was kept in the family, possibly to this day. My grandmother joined her husband in Canada months later, having traveled alone and pregnant with his first-born child. When my grandfather came to Montreal, Quebec, Canada via Ellis Island, the Canadian immigration official registered him as Spino, which remained as the family name to this day. Any relatives out there who could provide more info? As well, I am also seeking more info on Mainella ancestors from the same town or region. I hope to hear from some of you soon. :-) Ciao,
