hi... thank you for writing. i do believe we may have a connection!!! Antonio was my grandfather's brother who came to the US. I have the naturalization papers of his, and it states he was born feb. 1, 1896, came to america in 1920, made his Declaration of Intention in 1924, and his wife's name was Antoninna, born November 25, 1897, at San Carlo Pogano, Brazil. Is this the same Antonina Suropato?? I have seen this last name Suropato before on a passenger list from 1923 when she came over to visit antonio's brother Filippo, my grandfather. This is very exciting. I have a great aunt (83 yrs. old) who remembers Antonio and has identified him in my pictures... a very handsome man, but who didn't stay here in the US long. His brother, my grandfather Filippo Catterino, raised me; they had one son Joseph (my dad) who was divorced and brought his 2 kids home to his parents; and Antonio and Filippo had one other brother Nicola (married to concetta who also lived here in Manlius, NY, until he died; and he had 4 children, all of whom are alive; Joseph, Teresa, Grace and Leo. I just saw 3 of them last week at my daughter's graduation.
I do want to know about the other siblings and Antonio's family as well. One of my grandfather's nephews Pasquale (Patsy) DiMinno came here and stayed...i'm not sure who his mother was, and just how many siblings there were in Italy. The parents' names were Metildo Guiseppe Caterino (known as Giuseppe--i found the birth record) and Teresa Ianiri. I would love for you to check with your cousin Teresa about the family and learn more about them, and hopefully exchange pictures. Looking forward to hearing from you. Carole
