My grandfather changed the name or they did coming through Ellis Island to De Lallo instead of the Di Lallo. I am thinking of changing mine back to Di Lallo, but as you know in America, there is always a cost for everything. I guess everywhere. I took a class at Harvard Extensioin school last semester and my project was to do a paper on my history. I found most all the ships and the comings and goings of my grandparents. My aunt was born over there and they stayed a few years since my grandmother had two small children. I think her parents told her when she came back here and with another child, she must stay in America. She had a step mother and not sure the whole story there. Maybe some friction there. We went to the cemetary, hoping maybe to find some history and Di Lallo seemed to be a popular name. Through this website, I found distant cousins that moved to Australia. My one great uncle was a monk. Fr. Frite Vito, I think was his name. He was stationed in Rome that I know of. I hope to take my dad back in the summer. We met a woman there that had her kids or grandkids that lived in Brentwood, PA, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA where I am from. It is very close by. My father's Italian is kind of pigeon and he spoke basically with friends that came from that area. It's pretty rusty. It was really wonderful being there with him going to his home town. He actually had never been there, since he was born in America and when he was in Europe during WWII, he never made it that far. People were so nice to us there and Van, I think her name was, a school teacher there, took us to a great place to eat down the hill, an all wooden restaurant. nice woodwork and good food. yep, i guess i could go on and on too. Thanks for all the tidbits, I really appreciate it and my dad was so excited when I called him this morning about you and the info. I guess at his age, he is holding on to everything. chat soon. enjoy and soak up some fresh air for me. Christine Buon Viaggio!
