Subject:   GUERREGGIANTE ?

Hello,
I am trying to find out information regarding my last name. My last name now is Manware. I am told that originally my great granfather came to America from Italy and his last name was Guerreggiante (or spelled Guerriggiante/ or Guerreggianti). No one in my family knows the exact spelling because when the Italians came to America via Ellis Island the last names were often spelled incorrectly. I was told that Guerreggiante translates to the English version meaning 'Man of War' hence 'Manware.' Does anyone have any information about this name and the way it is suppose to be spelled? And does anyone know the english translation of Guerreggiante? I was also wondering what part of Italy does this name originate from and my great grandfathers Americanized name was Lubi Manware (I'm not sure if Lubi was his real name or a nickname).
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Steve Manware
