Posted by Patrick Pontet-Piccolomini on 11/27/03 at 2:09 PM Subject: LEONCAVALLO Hello, I am direct descent of Domenico LEONCAVALLO (born 1789 - possibly Bari, died c1857-67 Napoli, son of Ruggiero) and his wife Gelsomina MASTROPASQUA (born 1788 Trani, died ?). They had 9 children, all born Bari: I am descended from Giuseppe. Vincenzo is the father of the composer, Ruggiero (1857-1919) I have complete data & family tree of all descendants. But what I am looking for now is information to advance the family tree northwards - namely the earliest known, Ruggiero. Story has it the family originated from Pomarico with rich land properties and duca title (yeh, right!), but searches carried out there by local historian found no trace, except that an old family with rich land properties in the area is called CAVALLO. Personally I don't hold credance to any possibly links. So, if anyone had information about the early LEONCAVALLOs, regardless from where, I would be very pleased to hear from you. During my several years of research I have collected a vast amount of data on LEONCAVALLOs in mainly Italy and USA (those who arrived from Italy in late 1890s/early 1900s), which I have collated into a table in Word (currently running at 17 pages, and growing). I am more than happy to share this with anyone researching same name, as indeed I am happy to share my extensive Leoncavallo family tree (all these I can send as Word documents to email address). Kind regards - and a piu tardi! Patrick
