Vasile surname

I have an ancestor who emigrated to United States, was orphaned and adopted by Pennsylvania Dutch family and renamed Ralph Brown. His surname in Sicily was Vasile, and he emigrated about 1880, +/-.
I know this is a long shot, but any help would be appreciated.
