My mother wrote out a recipe for these, I think! She called them "colognettes", but if you say it fast and in another dialect, I'll bet this is the caucenetti cookie you're referring to. My grandmother was born around Calascio, Abbruzzi,surname Antonacci (like Smith in that area!). Her recipe calls for walnuts; I'm sure it was difficult to get ceci nuts in central Illinois in the early 1990s. If you want to have it, I'll be glad to email it to you.
