I remember eating polenta on a board also. There was 9 of us eating at a time. We used to carve a map of italy on the polenta and enjoyed it. Of course there was no map left when we were done, but it was fun. My parents were from Roccacasale Abbruzzi. My father came to america in 1913, and my mother and brother in 1919.
